It doesn't really make sense to include taxes in any rationalization  
for high hourly rates, as all full time employees have to pay taxes as  
well.  However, it does make sense to say that there is a giant cost  
in risk for not having the guaranteed paycheck of full time work.

I think an NYC php coder with a CS degree and 3 years of experience  
can expect anywhere from $50-80/hour depending on the strength of  
their resume/recommendations.  I've personally paid $40/hour for  
someone who had 2 years experience and no degree.
