The root of all my problems was, I trying to figure out the co from the 
information provided online.  The correct co is:

http://scm.joomla.com/svn/repos/joomla/trunk/

The information at: 
http://developer.joomla.org/sf/scm/do/listRepositories/projects.joomla/scm
