Check that "updates" not commented out in your /etc/yum.repos.d files,
though it looks like you're good. I'm using CentOS and it found php-gd.
Are you on RHEL 4, 5, or CentOS?
ALso, check the global exclude list, look for "exclude" in
/etc/yum.conf, or the repos files.
