I can't speak for others but when I'm hiring the mention of a certification
makes an small impact. It tells me that the candidate was serious enough to
go thru the rigor of obtaining a certification. It also tells me that the
candidate is aware of the breadth of the field. It doesn't tell me much
about the depth of knowledge the candidate possesses.
It does not remove the need to give the candidate a thorough technical
interview. In fact, candidates with certification are often given a tougher
interview because they are expected to meet a higher standard.
It also matters which certification is it. Most open source certifications
are not taken seriously. Often certifications focus on requiring a candidate
to have cursory knowledge of every area and don't focus on in-depth
knowledge in specific areas.
