NYCPHP Meetup

Quick question that I am looking around for and not seeing much info on.
basically, looking for a way to run a shell script or a php script with
xscreensaver.
i.e. gtk etc, looking at building something similar to the .NET
Terrarium project but in an open scripted way.
Wondering if anyone has any experience with using scripts this way.
