Maybe you could turn it around a little
'How to become a better programmer using PHP'  

Good programmers are like good cabinetmakers; 
and good programs are like well made cabinets -- 
useful and sturdy.

When you build a cabinet you can use a 
measured drawing or you can improvise. 

But usually it is not a clear cut 'either/or'  
situation. Many times, depending on your skill 
and experience, you can produce a variation of 
a blueprint which is tailored to the final 
installation à la 'built-in' cabinets. 

When you improvise like this, it is quite beneficial 
to know the structural characteristics of your 
materials before deciding how to 'join the pieces' 
together. 

In this context, the 'nuts and bolts' of PHP are 
really more than just fasteners.
