Embarrassingly enough, upon examining my code again I saw that my 
update function was checking to see if the elements of the array were 
empty, if they were, I didn't include them in the query statement I was 
preparing.

Thankfully I have escaped the public shame I would have suffered had I 
posted my code.  =)
