just a suggestion, you can go to www.sokkit.net and its Sokkit utility has Apache, PHP and MySql all configured properly and you can be up and running in minutes

in httpd.conf file be sure to include

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Then (after restarting) apache, try

and see what happens...
