Personally use iTerm on OSX and Poderosa on Windows (http://en.poderosa.org/)
For IDE on Mac, TextMate hands down is a beautiful thing.

Russ already mentioned it, but I'll second it - iTerm. It's really
what terminal should be.

Cliff, for CHM files, you can copy them over and use the application
Chmox to view them.
